Our latest exhibition is being installed at this very moment! MyWorld_smThe artists whose work has graced our front fence for the last few months have all banded together for an inside exhibition as well! We’re thrilled to have the very talented Jacqueline Kyle, Catherine Hull Sinclair, Kim Dingwall and Robyn Rich gracing our walls with their art.

The exhibition opens this Sunday as part of our Open Day celebrations, so we invite you down to see My World, Your World, wander through the rooms where some of our 2013 Artists in Residence will be working then hang about in the sunshine, listening to the music of Yasamine Moslih, Jessica Paige and Eva Popov or wander down to the Laurel Lodge lawn to find a bargain in the Suitcase Rummage market.

We’ll see you this Sunday!

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King

Every day, 1,000 women are violently assaulted across Australia. Nine out of ten of these incidents will go unreported.

As part of the largest global effort to publicly say “no” to violence against women and girls, White Ribbon Day invites men to swear an oath never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women. The White Ribbon Oath is a commitment to promote positive attitudes and behaviours towards women and, when needed, intervene safely to prevent violence against women. (more…)

We’re heading into the final straights for our current exhibitions and today we wanted to share with you one of the quirky pieces from Animal, Vegetable, Mineral by Sue Osborn and Laurie Collins. Both Sue and Laurie have written little explanations for each work which give additional insights into the image and the thoughts behind them or previous works which has informed the current ones.

This piece is one of Laurie’s and is titled Flight of Faith

The card reads: I had a character with wings leaping off a doghouse in a previous exhibition. I love these determined characters. This one has chosen a slightly higher point to try from. In Melbourne at Moomba (our local festival) we have a birdman competition where characters with joke wings jump from a platform into the river (the Yarra). Enthusiasm wins out over engineering! (Mind you, no one has really flown yet!)

Exhibition: Tracings of You

Along with the current exhibition in Benga house, Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, this month we also have an exhibition in Laurel Lodge. Ilona Nelson was Heritage Hill’s first Artist in Residence, back in 2011. Tracings of You displays some of the work she produced during her one day here. This exquisite exhibition is on until the 29 November, so come along and check it out. As always, we don’t want to give away too much, but here is a hint of what you’ll see:

This Sunday is the opening of our next exhibition, Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, by Sue Osborn and Laurie Collins. This exhibition, comprising of watercolours, airbrusing and sculpture, travels throughout Benga house and into the garden. That’s right, Benga suddenly has a new sculpture garden, temporarily. We’re quite excited about it.

We don’t want to give too much away, but here is a sneak peek at the artwork.

If you’re in the area on Sunday, do pop by the opening! It runs from 2-4pm, this Sunday the 4th of November.

October is a busy month here at Heritage Hill. We have oodles of things going on, take a deep breath and here we go…

Our two exhibitions this month are LINEages of Dandenong, by Pixi Mix in Benga house and Never Too Old To Create by a local group of older artists in Laurel Lodge.
This is LINEages of Dandenong, in which Pixi Mix has created massive, life-sized charcoal drawings of historical photos of Dandenong’s citizens which are interspersed with details of present day Dandenong on transparent architectural paper layered together on the wall. The result is a ghostly presence of then and now all culminating is a beautiful visual investigation into the identity of Dandenong.

Meanwhile, down in Laurel Lodge we have Never Too Old To Create from a group of older artists, aged 78-92. These artists are proving that older people still have contributions to make to the community. The over 40 works have been painted over the last few years by this spritely bunch of ladies and gentlemen which portray a wide variety of subjects including gardens, animals, still lives and even a few marine-themed images from around the world.

We also have Sundays in the Sun starting up again. So next Sunday the 14th of October we have Gwendolyne O’Dea, Jessica Paige and Hello Satellites playing chilled out tunes in the gardens from 12-3. So pack a picnic and come hang out at Hertiage Hill.
And we have our final Artist in Residence for the year, The Society of Histronic Happenings down from Sydney, holed up in the Old School House researching Laurel Lodge and it’s stories for the next installment of their show The Governess.

So do drop by and check out one or all of these great happenings!

On Friday, our latest exhibition, Inside Out, was officially opened. Inside Out is a collaboration between Heritage Hill and Chisholm TAFE to present artworks on our new fence display space.
Despite the drizzly weather, it was a lovely afternoon filled with art, nibbles, drinks and great company.

The City of Greater Dandenong’s Public Art Officer, Grissel, was on hand to start the proceedings off. (more…)
