We held the opening of our new Maid’s Quarters on Sunday and we have a number of very special guests attend. This is Elsie Schilling, who was the second maid to live and work at Benga.
Elsie was given a special tour before the official opening by our curator, Rhonda Diffey.
Here she is being shown some of the items on the dresser. Elsie was lovely and could remember so much about life here at Benga. She shared a number of memories with us and even told us a joke or two!
Our other special guest was the Mayor, Councillor Roz Blades, who officially opened the new display.
Councillor Blades spoke eloquently about life in the past and the unique position that Benga is in to allow people to walk through that history.
Our Maid’s Quarters is open from 10 – 4 Monday to Friday and from 12 – 4 on Sundays. Do drop by and experience the history for yourself.
